Although this competition was held last year, I thought it gave some great examples of programs and initiatives supporting economic development in foreign countries. The G-20 summit competition notes the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises in economic stability.
The link below provides descriptions of the winning proposals. One entry which I found particularly relevant to our class was BIDweb, a web-based network that brings together entrepreneurs, investors and mentors to help small businesses grow. This competition highlights the need for economies to provide financial tools for businesses to develop and create jobs.
